ABAI Accredited Programs: B.A. and Master’s Degrees

The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) accredits ABA training programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level. Each program at a university goes through the accreditation process separately, so one program at a school may be accredited while another is not. Programs must have been operating for at least five years before they can apply.

ABAI accreditation is a quality mark, but it is not required for BCBA exam eligibility. Since January 2022, graduates of ABAI-accredited programs meet the BACB’s coursework requirements automatically through Pathway 1. Non-accredited programs can still qualify students through Pathway 2 coursework attestation. The BACB’s older Verified Course Sequence (VCS) ended December 31, 2025.

Demand for BCBAs has grown steadily since 2010, and 38 states now have licensure or practice requirements for ABA therapists. That growth has made program quality harder to evaluate from the outside, which is where ABAI accreditation comes in. It tells you a program has been reviewed against a set of published standards for faculty qualifications, curriculum, and supervised fieldwork.

Below, we list the U.S.-based ABAI-accredited bachelor’s and master’s programs, including both campus and online options. ABAI currently accredits 34 master’s programs, 5 bachelor’s programs, and 11 doctoral programs at U.S. universities. This page covers the bachelor’s and master’s level.

ABAI-Accredited Master’s Programs

ABAI-accredited master’s programs vary in format. Some are stand-alone ABA degrees in a psychology or education department, while others sit within a broader degree as a concentration. Most are campus-based, though more programs now offer online or hybrid options. Coursework covers the BACB’s required content areas, and because these programs meet Pathway 1 requirements, graduates do not need a separate coursework attestation. Most programs also require a thesis or capstone project, and many offer opportunities to work with faculty in clinical or research settings.
