ABA Master’s Programs in South Carolina

In South Carolina, the SC Association for Behavior Analysis (SC ABA) advocates for standards and licensing qualifications. Currently, there is no law prohibiting the practice of ABA or the use of “behavior analyst” by people who are not BCBA certified. Current legislation refers to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) for ongoing updates to requirements. This presents a risk for consumers and for therapists.

Program Overview:
The M.Ed. in ABA is either 30 or 39 crest hours, depending on the track students choose. All students complete 24 credits of core coursework. Then, students who are on the Practicum track (39 credits) obtain 1,500 hours of supervised fieldwork. Students work under a supervisor that is a certified BCBA to complete their fieldwork. Students on the Independent Fieldwork track (30 credits) complete 300 hours of supervised fieldwork through the university and accrue the remaining fieldwork requirement under the supervision of a BCBA that they already know. Program faculty help students identify which track makes the most sense for them to ensure they can complete the program and fieldwork.

Courses are completed in a hybrid format, with both online and on campus meetings. Students can also work on faculty-led research projects if they choose.

Graduate Certificate ABA Program in South Carolina

Clemson University and Francis Marion University offer the option to earn a BCBA certificate. This is an option for students who already hold a master’s degree or are enrolled in a master’s degree program and want to earn BCBA certification as well.
